Our parachutes were a great success! Only one egg was smashed—and even that one had remained safely in its basket. Most of the design criteria were achieved, and everyone loved the challenge of designing and making them. As well as developing our DT skills, this project linked brilliantly with our Year 5/6 science work on air resistance. We learned that larger parachutes have a greater surface area, which increases air resistance and slows the fall—helping to protect the egg during landing. A fun and fascinating way to combine science and design!
